"If you’re ready for an Axolotl or wanting to know how to prepare for one talk to Dom! I just picked up our new Axolotl today and I could not be more impressed. Dom was super responsive, helpful, knowledgeable and kind. His Axolotls are in amazing condition and so well cared for. Dom taught us so much we didn’t know, answered any questions we had, and we felt so welcome as soon as we stepped through the gate. They have so many beautiful Axolotl’s (and fish) ready to go right now!"

Common questions

Got questions about keeping axolotls in Queensland? Here are a few quick answers to help you get started on the right foot.

What water temperature do axolotls require?

Axolotls thrive in cold water between 16°C and 18°C. Keeping them below 20°C is critical, especially during hot marybrough summers, using aquarium chillers or air conditioning.

What tank size do I need for a single axolotl?

We recommend a minimum tank of 2ft for one adult axolotl to provide plenty of floor space and stable water quality.

Can I keep two axolotls together?

Yes, provided they are of identical size, adequately fed, of the same sex to prevent unwanted breeding, and housed in a sufficiently large tank with plenty of hides.

Can I visit to pick out my axolotl in person?

Absolutely. We encourage private viewings by appointment so you can observe their behaviour and choose the one that captures your heart.

Can axolotl live out of water?

No, axolotls cannot live out of water, as they are fully aquatic animals. Unlike their salamander relatives, which begin life in water and eventually move onto land, axolotls remain in the water throughout their lives.

What do you feed your axolotls?

Our axolotls are raised on quality sinking carnivore pellets alongside high-protein earthworms as treats.

Do I need a cycled tank before bringing one home?

Yes. Your nitrogen cycle must be completely established prior to taking your axolotl home to ensure zero ammonia and nitrites, keeping your pet safe. Cycle tanks typically take up to 2 weeks.

Do you ship axolotls across Australia?

We primarily operate locally in Maryborough for safe collection and personal handover, prioritising pet health and stress-free transport.
